Qualified technicians are constantly responding to calls that address some of the same common problems with the HVAC system in all homes. It can be helpful to understand what problems you could be facing with your unit in the months or years ahead. Anticipating these issues can help you to resolve them much faster or prevent them in the first place. After all, prevention is key to warding off long-term damage to your air conditioning unit. Here are a few of the most common problems found with central AC units and how to correct them.

Dirty Coils

Having a dirty coil on your air conditioner unit can make it run far less efficiently. The dirt and debris surrounding the coil make it nearly impossible to extract the humidity from the air inside the home or to cool down the new air. Your air conditioner may have to run much harder and cost you more on your electric bill at the end of the month. However, your home won’t feel any cooler despite the extra money you are paying.

Cleaning dirty coils should only be attempted by a trained and qualified HVAC technician. This is often taken care of during an annual maintenance inspection. While many people might believe that an annual maintenance inspection isn’t truly necessary, it can definitely prevent excess wear and tear on your unit.

Reduced Airflow

Do you feel like your vents simply aren’t putting out as much air as they used to? The reduced airflow in your home might be caused by dirty and clogged air filters. Over time, your air filters collect dust, debris, and pet hair that prevent the air from flowing through their screens effectively. This is a relatively simple fix for most homeowners. All you need to do is replace your air filters every two to three months with a medium-efficiency basic pleated filter.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your air conditioner should have enough refrigerant inside of its chambers to last your unit through its entire lifetime. However, many units develop a leak that sends this refrigerant dripping all over the other parts of your unit. You may first notice this leak when you spot frozen hoses or tubes inside your unit outside or when your inside vents stop blowing cool air. This is a serious yet common issue that requires professional attention.

You can restore the cold air to your home by having a qualified and licensed technician recharge your AC unit. They should hold an EPA card to prove that they are trained to handle these chemicals. They also will need to repair the leak to prevent it from continuously happening and damaging other parts of the unit. Out of the three common issues listed here, this is the most serious one.

Many homeowners encounter these three issues with their air conditioner over the course of its lifespan. This is why you need qualified air conditioning contractors on your side. Classic Air Conditioning makes it easy to get these common issues remedied with around-the-clock service, annual maintenance plans and more!

We've been using Classic Air Conditioning & Heating Services for the past five years to include Installation of new units (flawless by the way), bi-annual check-ups that are scheduled and carried out without a second thought on my part, and in emergencies (backed up drain in the bathroom with a response time in under 24 hours to troubleshoot the problem). Their technicians are master's at their craft, personable, and cut to the chase on his service calls. I never feel like I'm being given the run around or a sales pitch with this company. Today, Mitchell Wesch went above and beyond walking us through what was happening and provided a multitude of options and expected timelines for future repairs. Once again, a great example of exemplary customer service. He was able to troubleshoot the problem with zero delay. We're ready for the Texas summer, and are already looking forward to the next scheduled service call. Thank you Classic Services for keeping our home healthy and happy.

Theresa did an amazing job! She informed me about everything she was doing and took extra pictures so I could have them for my record. She was quick but still answered all my questions. She definitely saved the day when my condensor froze over on the coldest day of the year, leaving my family in the cold. She was out at my house within the hour and had everything fixed in minutes.
