Do you ever worry that your home isn’t cooling down fast enough because it needs more refrigerant? Many homeowners wonder how often their air conditioning unit needs to be recharged to keep cooling the home correctly. They speculate that more refrigerant must help their home to become even cooler, so they seek out a technician who can recharge the unit.

Theoretically, your air conditioning unit should never need to be recharged because it is designed to maintain its refrigerant levels. You can take a look at a couple of these prominent signs that you need a recharge before you call a licensed technician.

Your air conditioner can’t produce cool air

Maybe it feels like your air conditioning unit is simply pushing around the hot air that’s already in your home. The room temperature air keeps your home from thoroughly cooling down. Warm air blowing from your vents isn’t necessarily a sign that you have a refrigerant problem though. It could also be attributed to a faulty thermostat. However, the symptoms will look different if you have a refrigerant leak causing the lack of cool air.  This is why we always need to make sure you are up to date with your AC repair.

Chances are that the cool air slowly disappeared over time instead of suddenly. The air went for ice-cold to cool to warm in a progressive decline over the course of days or weeks. The warm air should last longer than fifteen minutes from the time the unit turns on. This is likely a sign that your air conditioning unit has a refrigerant leak that has caused it to run out of this cooling agent.

Your air conditioner is often icing over

Refrigerant is used to help cool things down which can sometimes result in a larger issue. If you have a refrigerant leak, it’s possible that it can cause other elements on the unit to freeze. You might realize that your air conditioning unit is freezing up all the time this summer. The ice extends beyond just the cooling coils into the hoses, tubes, motor, and other crucial areas of the unit.

It won’t be hard for you to identify a refrigerant leak that is causing frost. It is possible that you might see these two symptoms together. When the refrigerant leaks out of your system, it has to go somewhere and that might cause it to freeze. It would be in your best interest to contact a fully licensed HVAC technician to take a look at your potential issue sooner rather than later.

The leak could be relatively pervasive and take over your unit entirely. The leak must be identified and corrected before you will be able to successfully recharge your air conditioning unit. Otherwise, you may do long-term damage to the air conditioning unit as a direct result of trying to run the motor and blower without the necessary refrigerant.

Our air conditioning technicians are fully licensed and insured. You can rest assured that our technicians are prepared to handle any type of refrigerant emergency that your system throws at them. Give us a call today if you need ac repair in New Braunfels.

We've been using Classic Air Conditioning & Heating Services for the past five years to include Installation of new units (flawless by the way), bi-annual check-ups that are scheduled and carried out without a second thought on my part, and in emergencies (backed up drain in the bathroom with a response time in under 24 hours to troubleshoot the problem). Their technicians are master's at their craft, personable, and cut to the chase on his service calls. I never feel like I'm being given the run around or a sales pitch with this company. Today, Mitchell Wesch went above and beyond walking us through what was happening and provided a multitude of options and expected timelines for future repairs. Once again, a great example of exemplary customer service. He was able to troubleshoot the problem with zero delay. We're ready for the Texas summer, and are already looking forward to the next scheduled service call. Thank you Classic Services for keeping our home healthy and happy.

Theresa did an amazing job! She informed me about everything she was doing and took extra pictures so I could have them for my record. She was quick but still answered all my questions. She definitely saved the day when my condensor froze over on the coldest day of the year, leaving my family in the cold. She was out at my house within the hour and had everything fixed in minutes.
