Best AC units for Cibolo

by | Apr 13, 2023 | HVAC, Neighborhood

We want to keep the residents of Cibolo cool all year round—but at the rate the city is growing (the population of Cibolo has doubled over the last 10 years), we figured it would be a good idea to write articles that can help residents, new and old, pick the perfect air conditioner for their homes.

A great AC unit will keep you cooler than sipping a cold beer on the patio of the Old Main Ice House on a hot summer’s night. Colder than dipping your toes is Cibolo Creek. Colder than a double scoop of ice cream from The Scoop.

You get the idea. We’re here to keep you cool. Here are the types of AC that we recommend for Cibolo:

Types of AC options

There are a number of different kinds of air conditioning units, ranging from window units to central air. We don’t recommend window units to most clients—Cibolo gets hot, and window units aren’t energy efficient, so they’ll end up costing more in the long run.

No matter which of these units you choose, the best AC units for Texas all have one thing in common: A high seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). A higher SEER rating means your HVAC unit will provide better cooling while consuming less energy.

Here are the four types of unit we recommend instead:

Central AC

Central air conditioning is a classic for a reason—it’s energy efficient and provides even cooling throughout your home. You’ve seen central AC setups a million times—there’s an external unit and an internal unit. The system works by transferring cool air through ducts in your home.

We think central AC is a great choice for many Cibolo residents—it’s got a lower upfront cost than the other options we’re going to cover, and it will keep you consistently cool all throughout the year. We recommend high efficiency central AC—those lower energy bills can pay dividends.

Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC) offers HVAC rebates for energy efficient central air conditioning. They also offer rebates for the other high efficiency air conditioners we’re about to discuss.

Heat pumps

Don’t have a furnace? We highly recommend getting a heat pump.

Heat pumps act as both air conditioners and as heat sources. The main disadvantage of heat pumps is that they offer less heat than furnaces. In extremely cold climates, that’s a problem, but here in Cibolo the heat offered by heat pumps is more than enough to keep your home toasty warm on even the coldest of days.

You can find very energy efficient heat pumps, and they don’t rely on natural gas like some furnaces do. They’re one of our favorite new styles of air conditioning system, and they come highly recommended.

Ductless AC

Ductless mini-split systems are extremely popular. They’re more energy efficient than traditional ducted central air conditioners, because the cold air can’t seep out through the ducts. Instead, each room in your home will have its own mini air conditioner, giving unparalleled control over each person’s comfort—no more battling over the thermostat!

You can buy a ductless air conditioning system or a ductless heat pump—they’re both excellent ways of cooling your home. Best of all, you won’t have to get ducts installed, so if you’re building a new house in Cibolo, we highly recommend ductless systems.

Solar AC

Solar is a little different from the other kinds of air conditioner we’ve mentioned—it’s a power source, not a system, so you can get solar-powered air conditioners that are ducted, ductless, or heat pumps.

There are completely solar powered models, as well as hybrid models. Cibolo is a great spot for solar power, though the upfront cost for these units is quite a bit higher.

Our top recommended brands

You’ll never want to go for an air conditioning system outside of the biggest brands. There’s a reason that almost everyone in the industry sells Lennox, Trane, and Carrier—they’re incredibly reliable, they offer excellent support to HVAC technicians. Their units are safe, they’re energy efficient, and they provide consistent cooling.

Here at Classic, we highly recommend Lennox. We’re authorized dealers for both brands, allowing us to offer you better prices and support.
